Airshows are there to inspire and entertain the next generation of Engineers, Aviators, Air Traffic Controller and a variety of other roles within the Aviation World.
We are pleased to welcome Amelia Richardson to present at #EAC26 Convention and to take us through her journey so far, looking at the impact and influence the airshow industry has had on cementing her career goals. Amelia, widely known online as "Amelia The Glider Pilot," is a dynamic and inspiring young aviator dedicated to sharing her passion for flight and encouraging more young people, particularly girls, to enter the aviation sector. At just 17 years old, she has already achieved remarkable milestones in the world of gliding.
Amelia is the UK's youngest glider instructor, a qualification she earned at the age of 16. She discovered her passion for gliding at age 13 after her first flight, and by 14, she had earned her solo license. She is also a motor glider and aerobatics pilot.
Her dedication to flying is evident in her commitment to the sport, even working as a lifeguard at her local pool to help afford her flying. Among her memorable flights is her first 50km flight away from her airfield, which she undertook despite initial confidence concerns, successfully completing a downwind dash and landing in a random field in the Cotswolds.
Amelia's mission is centred on sharing the world of aviation with a wider audience. She actively uses her social media presence (under the handle @Amelia_Glider_Pilot) to document her journey and inspire others.
She is part of the Elevate(hers) team for the 2023-2024 period and has been recognised for her early contributions, having received the British Women Pilots' Association (BWPA) Flying Start Scholarship. She has used her growing platform to be a roving reporter for the build-up to the 2022 Women's Worlds gliding event, interviewing several competing pilots.
Amelia is currently working as Cabin Crew for Ryanair to fund her flying passion and gain an wider aviation perspective. She credits an early flight with two female pilots at age four as the initial spark for her interest in aviation.
